OC: David Smit

LONG EXPLANATION FOLLOWS! XD

Ok so I finally, FINALLY got around to making a picture of Scam's uncle, his mother's brother. I wanted to make one of him for a very long time but I could never really settle on what I wanted him to look like. All I had about his appearance in stories was that he had dark brown hair like Scam...which didn't help a lot lol. I finally settled on creating a person whose cruelty was hidden in his eyes but otherwise appeared normal. With one glance, you could probably never tell how much destruction this man is capable of...ironically, Scam grows up to be the same way, looking innocent on the outside but being capable of "evil" on the inside, a trait he most probably picked up from his uncle without even realizing it.

For those of you that have read my stories over on ff.net, you know this man is the one who hurt Scam at a very early age, and thus started to take away the trust he had in people when he was just a kid. David Smit had a deep dislike for Scam's father, Aaron, who he felt was not worthy of his sister. He was strictly against their marriage and never once accepted Aaron as his brother-in-law or his sister's husband. In fact he completely cut himself off from them except for a brief visit from his sister on Christmas day each year (Aaron would wait in his car for his wife to finish meeting her brother, he never once went inside). Whenever Jennifer (Scam's mother) tried to make her brother become a part of their family he would turn away and refuse to listen to her, pretending that Aaron and Tim didn't even exist. David never once met his nephew while his sister and her husband were alive though Jennifer did bring him a picture of her son which he also didn't willingly look at.

When Scam's parents passed away suddenly, Scam was handed to him because he was his only family still alive. David grudgingly took Scam in and paid for his education (until Scam rejected his money) but never treated him like his nephew or family, instead he chose to abuse him and hit him every chance he got because he hated his father and extended that hate onto his son.

When Scam reached his early teen years, he finally put his foot down against his uncle's abuse and since then their relationship became virtually nonexistant; his uncle now afraid of him. Scam focused on school and staying out of the house and would spend zero time with his uncle. David Smit passed away a lonely man (at age 48 from an illness) when Scam had just finished college in a different state and Scam did not come back home to attend his funeral; his uncle nothing more than an enemy to him by now.

The words Scam had put on his uncle's gravestone (mentioned in Have We Met?) read:

David Smit

A guardian, a dutiful uncle
who will never be forgotten.

While not mentioned in stories, the words were meant mockingly as Smit was never a guardian to Scam while he should have been as he was his only parental figure left. Scam did mean the words "dutiful uncle" but that too in a hollow sense as his uncle felt his duty was to provide JUST money and shelter instead of care and love. The last words, "who will never be forgotten" were put there by Scam as a way of saying he'd never forget everything he had put him through for as long as he lived. Scam's hatred for his uncle is shown further in the fact that he chose to use his last name when he posed as "Mac Smit" as a way of dragging his name through the mud just for the heck of it.


I'm thinking of writing a story where the Aaron/Jennifer/David story will be explained in detail but it's going to be a while before that happens.
